Kuala Lumpur, December 14 – A group of MIC leaders disgruntled with the leadership of Dato Seri G.Palanivel gathered yesterday at the Netaji hall in MIC Headquarters, expressing their concern for the future of the party and declared that the party President should relinquish his position to solve the current woes faced by the party.

The leaders came from different parts of the country and several of them spoke without fear highlighting the failures of the President and did not mince their words in calling for the President to step aside to pave way for Dr Subramaniam to take over the party and give it a new impetus.

The gathering was organized by MIC Youth leader Datuk T.Mohan and Datuk Muniandy who are spearheading the pressure group that had appealed to the Registrar of Societies demanding for re-election for the party.

In a letter delivered on 5th of December the Registrar of Societies directed that re-election be held for the 3 Vice Presidents and 23 CWC positions and also ordered re-election for another 8 divisions.

Yesterday’s gathering was attended by about 300 people who included several CWC members, MIC Branch Chairmen, Youth and Women leaders and MIC members.

“The party is in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) now and badly needs a Doctor to prescribe the right medicine to survive and that Doctor is none other than our Deputy President Dr Subramaniam” voiced one of the leaders who attended the gathering. Coincidently Subramaniam is also a medical Doctor.

Most of the leaders who took to the stage pointed out how the President has been constantly not keeping his promises. “Earlier, Palanivel is the one who said the party will accept whatever decision made by the ROS but now he is saying he will call for a CWC meeting to discuss the matter and even appeal against the decision of ROS, thereby making a U-turn” one of the speakers said.

Some of the speakers also warned that the party may be heading for de-registration in view of the delay caused by the President in reacting to the ROS directives. “Non-compliance may result in the party being de-registered and that could be their strategy so that they can form a new party probably MIC Baru” warmed a delegate from Melaka.

At the end of the meeting the gathering unanimously passed a motion that Palanivel should step down as President to pave way for Dr Subramaniam to take over as the new President, declaring that it is the only solution for the party now.

Datuk Muniandy in concluding the meeting said they have assembled 15 reasons why Palanivel should step down and those findings would be submitted to MIC Headquarters for the party’s consideration.
