Air Asia Indonesia flight loses contact with Air Traffic Control

An Air Asia Airbus A320 aircraftKUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28  — An AirAsia Indonesia’s flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 7.24am today. This was confirmed on AirAsia’s official Facebook and Twitter pages.

“Unfortunately, we have no further information on the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available,” the low-cost airline said.

The missing aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC. AirAsia said a search and rescue operation was in progress and AirAsia was cooperating and assisting the operation.

The airline has set up an emergency call centre for family or friends of those on board the aircraft at +622129850801.

AirAsia will release further information as soon as it becomes available. Updated information will also be posted on the AirAsia website, www.airasia.com.
