Number Of Evacuees Continues To Drop In Flood-hit Sabah, Sarawak!

MANIKURAILAMA_080115_TMIAFIF_025KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) — The number of evacuees at flood relief centres in Sabah and Sarawak has continued to drop, with 969 as of this afternoon compared to 1,207 this morning. However, in Kelantan, the number remains at 255.

In SABAH, the number of evacuees dropped to 54 from 10 families compared to 224 from 45 families, all housed at two relief centres. A spokesman of the Beaufort flood operations room said the district had 11 evacuees from two families while Membakut had 43 victims from eight families.

In SARAWAK, the number of evacuees stood at 915 from 288 families this afternoon, down from 983 from 306 families in the morning. A spokesman of the Sarawak National Security Council (NSC) said the Samarahan division had the highest number of evacuees, at 410, followed by Limbang (356), Miri (83) and Mukah (66).

In KELANTAN, a spokesman of the Kelantan NSC said the 255 evacuees were being housed at school halls, factories and mosques as their houses were destroyed or washed away by the floodwaters last month.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement today that thunderstorms in the waters of Reef South and Sarawak (off Rejang, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri) were expected to prevail until late this evening.
