Saravanan-FeatureGOMBAK, Feb 4 – MIC vice-president Datuk M. Saravanan (pic) may seek the party’s top post when fresh elections for all party positions are held in June.

Saravanan said he was ready to mount a challenge against MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, depending on the level of support received from other party members.

“Previously, I had agreed to stand for the vice-president post for the good of the party.

“But now that fresh elections are being held, I will discuss with my supporters… who knows? I may run for either the deputy president or the president’s post,” he told reporters at the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves here.

Saravanan said he currently had the support of 1500 MIC branches, and would need another 500 more to back his bid.

“There’s over 3,700 branches in total. If 2,000 branches support me, then I have no choice but to contest as president. I haven’t made up my mind, but maybe today I might receive blessings from God” Saravanan further said.
