Najib, who witnessed the celebration at Batu Caves with the presence of about 1.6 million Hindu devotees and tourists this morning, said Malaysians were blessed as they could celebrate various festivals in a climate of peace and harmony.
“This morning, I had the opportunity to be at the celebration in Batu Caves and I was happy to see Thaipusam being celebrated with much fanfare like in previous years.
“As Malaysians, we are definitely blessed as our multiracial and multireligious society can celebrate various festivals and live together in peace and harmony,” the prime minister said in his latest entry on his Facebook page.
Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor spent time watching the colourful Hindu celebration, including devotees carrying the kavadi barefooted in a procession and shaving their heads.
Meanwhile, on his Twitter page, Najib said the solidarity as shown at the Thaipusam celebration today helped Malaysia create a peaceful society.
