KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 – In a second tweet in just over a fortnight, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak advised the people to seek treatment immediately if they suspect they have contracted dengue fever.
In his latest post today on his Twitter account @NajibRazak, the prime minister outlined some of the symptoms of dengue fever which the people should pay attention to.
He mentioned headache; fever; pain behind the eyes; body aches; mild bleeding from the gums, nose or beneath the skin and skin rashes.
Najib’s advice, the second following the first on Feb 17, indicates the severity of the dengue fever situation in the country.
Statistics show that in January and February this year, 23,630 cases of dengue fever, with 62 deaths, were reported in the country, up from the 16,053 cases, with 29 deaths, in the corresponding period last year.
The prime minister also uploaded a similar post on his Facebook account, advising the people to ensure that their family members and friends knew of the signs and symptoms of dengue fever.
He said they could contact the Health Ministry at 03-8881 0600 to obtain information on the disease.
“I do not wish to see anyone else suffering or in grief over the loss of family members to dengue,” he said.
“Dengue kills. Please ensure that your family members and friends know of the signs and symptoms of dengue fever.
“If anyone shows any of the signs or symptoms, seek advice and treatment immediately at clinics or hospitals or contact the Ministry of Health Malaysia at 03-8881 0600,” he said.
