parliamentKUALA LUMPUR, March 10 – The Dewan Rakyat today observed a minute’s silence in remembrance of the passengers and crew of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 that went missing on March 8 last year.

Members of Parliament from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition stood to observe the silence, and Muslim MPs recited the Al-Fatihah, before the start of today’s proceedings.

Earlier, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, on behalf of the MPs, expressed condolences to the families of the passengers and crew.

He said the MH370 tragedy was a heart-breaking incident that touched the conscience of all the people.

“I, on behalf of all the MPs, hope that the family members will be steadfast and courageous in facing this tribulation while the search goes on for the ill-fated aircraft.

“We pray for God to bless their souls and place them among the righteous,” he said.

Flight MH370 dropped off radar on March 8 last year as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft has yet to be found, even after an exhaustive search in the southern Indian Ocean where it is believed to have gone down after veering off course.
