NAIROBI, March 6- Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will start announcing official results of the 2013 general election from Wednesday, says its Chairman, Issack Hassan.
Briefing the media here Tuesday night, he said returning officers would be required to report to the National Counting Centre at the Bomas of Kenya complex here all the results — for president, country governors, senate, Parliament, women’s representatives and county assembly representatives — which would then be announced by the IEBC.
Hassan claims of a server crash at the tallying centre, but said the IEBC would resort to manual tallying because of the challenges it was experiencing in the electronic transmission of the results. So far provisional results for the presidential race from 13,000 polling stations across the country have been transmitted.
There has been outrage over the high number of spoilt ballots. With 50 per cent of the presidential results in, 284,232 votes have been rejected. The IEBC has blamed the complexity of the election for the high number of spoilt ballots.
