Kuala Lumpur (dpa) – Malaysian investigators interviewed Prime Minister Najib Razak over 673 million dollars in funds that he allegedly received from Middle East donors.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said Najib (pic) was also asked about corruption allegations related to a state development fund.
“The meeting today took around two and a half hours,” the agency said. “The prime minister extended his full cooperation to the MACC.”
Najib has been facing calls to resign, as well as criticism from within his own party, following a July report in US media suggesting that hundreds of millions of dollars in his accounts had been misappropriated from the troubled 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Najib denied the allegations. The commission, which is under the prime minister’s office, said the money came from unnamed donors in the Middle East.
The motive for the donations has not been revealed.
