GEORGE TOWN — The Department of Community Development (KEMAS) should focus on its core business and continuously improve teaching quality for early childhood education, said Rural Development Deputy Minister R. Sivarasa.
He said KEMAS needs to be a professional institution and must continue to move forward in keeping up with the times.
KEMAS staff should also be professional and not be affiliated with any political party, he added.
“It is essential for KEMAS personnel to show professionalism in the workplace and not favour any political party to make this organisation a great place to work in,” he said at the closing of Hari Potensi KEMAS at Universiti Sains Malaysia here last night.
“We want KEMAS kindergarten curriculum to be constantly updated, in line with current needs, as education has changed and is no longer the same as 20 or 30 years ago,” he said.
He said in sustaining continuous improvement efforts, KEMAS is in the midst of implementing a pilot programme in several kindergartens by integrating science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and mathematics in the curriculum.
Hari Potensi Kemas, a co-curricular activity day for KEMAS kindergartens, is an annual event organised since 2006. The programme which includes talent show and sports competition, is organised at the parliamentary, district, state and national levels.
