API In Five Areas Reach Unhealthy Level

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23- Five locations in Melaka, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have registered unhealthy level Air Pollutant Index (API) readings this afternoon, the Department of Environment (DoE) said in a statement Monday.

Haze in Malaysia.Three of the locations are in Melaka, namely Bukit Rambai (122), Muar (102) Melaka City (101) and one each in Selangor, Banting (111) and Kuala Lumpur, Cheras (117).

The API in Nilai and Port Klang are also close to the unhealthy level and readings in Nilai showed 97, Port Klang 93, followed by Port Dickson and Seremban (83).

Apart from the five unhealthy spots, 27 other areas registered moderate readings while 11 other spots remained at the satisfactory level.

API readings of between 0 and 50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

The statement said the haze which has returned to Malaysia would remain for a short period due to a change in the wind direction.
