BANGKOK, Aug 7- Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has brushed aside a rumour about a plot by anti-amnesty protestors to kidnap her.
She said she did not believe that the protesters planned to capture her, and that she still travelled as usual from her home to her office at Government House.
Speaking to reporters here Tuesday, Yingluck also insisted that she would attend parliament Wednesday.
She also emphasised the need for the security forces to be patient when dealing with the people and, at the same time, sought the cooperation of the people not to travel unnecessarily to parliament, government house and areas where the Internal Security Act (ISA) was enforced.
Expressing concern about the involvement of a third hand in the ongoing protests against the Amnesty Bill to be tabled in parliament Wednesday, she said protesters should conduct peaceful protests in accordance with the rule of law.
“I want everyone to respect the rules, democracy, and to use rights in the parliament as it is the right stage to resolve the problem,” she said, directing her message to the opposition Democrat Party.
On the other side, the People’s Army Against Thaksin Regime spokesman Taikorn Ponsuwarn said the protest rallies would be stepped up.
He called on supporters to gather at Lumpini Park at 9 am Wednesday, but did not disclose any details of the plan.
In view of the concerns about the impact of the protests, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said nine schools within the ISA enforcement area would be closed for three days from Wednesday.
This is due to concerns over the children’s safety, he said.
The ISA, which gives the authorities broad powers, is enforced in three Bangkok districts – Dusit, Phra Nakhon and Pom Prab Satruphai.
