KUALA LUMPUR, March 7- Several Malaysian players put up a poor display at the All-England Championships and were eliminated in first round matches played at National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England today. Men’s second singles player Liew Daren lost to fifth seed Chen Jin of China, 15-21, 21-19, 11-21 in 67 minutes.
Tan Chung Seang lost to eighth seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam; 12-21, 21-15,15-21 while Chong Wei Feng lost to Jan Jorgensen of Denmark, 11-21,14-21. World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei who is after his third title after winning in 2010 and 2011 will play Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong later tonight.
In the men’s doubles, world number two Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong made the second round after beating Chris Adcock/Andrew Ellis of England, 21-19,24-22. However, Gan Teik Chai/Ong Soon Hock lost to Chen Hung Ling/Lu Chia Bin of Taiwan, 12-21,12-21. In the women’s doubles, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun/Woon Khe Wei entered the second round after beating Emelie Lennartsson/Emma Wengberg of Sweden, 21-11,21-13.
However, sisters Ng Hui Lin/Ng Hui Ern failed to advance after losing to top seed Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang of China 15-21,16-21. Malaysia has no representative in the women’s singles when all the players were beaten in the qualifying round.
