BENTONG, March 11 – The Pahang MCA have identified winnable candidates for the Tanah Rata (Cameron Highlands) and Tras (Raub) state seats in the 13th general election, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai(Pic).
He said the MCA was confident of wresting both seats which it lost in the last general election and in Tanah Rata, conscientious efforts were being made to win over vegetable farmers. The Pahang MCA has appointed State Local Government, Environment and Health Committee chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun to head the Tras election machinery, and State Human Resources and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Fong Koong Fuee to spearhead the Tanah Rata machinery, said Liow.
Liow, who is also Pahang MCA chairman, said there was no tussle for the Tanah Rata constituency between the MCA and Gerakan for the seat traditionally belonged to the MCA.
“This is an MCA seat, there is no plan to swap the seat,” he told reporters after opening the Bentong Empower Convention organised by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council here today.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) lost the Tanah Rata seat to an Independent candidate, Ho Yip Kap, who was a former MCA member. He later joined Gerakan. The Tras seat was wrested by the DAP in 2008. Meanwhile, Liow said he had ordered all MCA divisions in the state to open their operation rooms and disseminate information on government’s successes and development over the past five years and the next five years to enhance public confidence.
“Chinese are not marginalized. In fact, the needs of new villages and requests for temples and burial grounds are taken into consideration,” he said.
