Kuala Lumpur – Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau is making full use of the ongoing MATTA fair to promote their nation’s exotic beaches, natural locations and several other beautiful destinations to attract Malaysian tourists.

In this regard Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau in collaboration with the Sri Lankan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur jointly organised an event yesterday at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur to kick-start their promotions.
B2B meetings among several tourism and travel related businesses were also simultaneously held at the event.
The road-show events are organised to coincide with the MATTA fair, taking place in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from 4th to 6th September.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia Ibrahim Ansar (pic) was the guest of honour at the event. A presentation on the exotic destinations of Sri Lanka was done by Ms Chami Lanka Gasnawage, the Assistant Director of Marketing of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
Assistant Director of Malaysian Tourism Board Siti Salwah Othman and Andrew Tiong, the Information Chief of Peoples Progressive Party also attended the event.
Speech by High Commissioner
In his speech Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia Ibrahim Ansar highlighted Sri Lankan government’s efforts in bringing peace to their beautiful land once torn by intense civil war and to put it back on the map as one of the most sought after tourism destinations of the world.
“We have not had any single untoward incident in the last 6 years” Ibrahim claimed proudly. “And this has brought back scores of tourists back to Sri Lanka” he further said.
Later, when speaking to the reporters, the High Commissioner noted that Sri Lanka houses 8 UNESCO approved sites of which 6 are on heritage list and 2 on natural preservation list. “Sri Lanka is currently embarking on massive highways and roads and very soon we will have a nation well connected by roads to serve the visiting tourists” High Commissioner Ibrahim Ansar said.
1.5 million touists last year
In presenting the destinations of Sri Lanka for tourists to visit, Assistant Director of Sri Lanka’s Tourism Promotions Bureau, Chami Lanka (pic), pointed out that her nation registered some 1.5 million tourist visits last year and that they have already crossed 1 million as of July this year.
