Kuala Lumpur – Much anticipated MIC election for the national positions, is scheduled to be held on the 6th of November 2015 and the respective nominations will be held on the 25th of October.
MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam has announced that the MIC General Assembly will be held on the 6th and 7th of November 2015. The election for Deputy President, 3 Vice-Presidents and 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) members will take place on the first day of the assembly.
A contest between Datuk M.Saravanan and Datuk Seri S.K.Devamany expected for the post of Deputy President. Saravanan has already announced he is gunning for the coveted post.
Devamany is yet to announce whether he will be going for Deputy President’s position or will defend his current position as Vice-President of the party.
Several divisions and state leaders in the past few days have proposed that Saravanan should be unanimously elected as the Deputy President of the party.
However, MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam intervened to put a stop to such nominations, reminding divisions and state leaders it is only the delegates who are entitled to nominate candidates for positions.
“In MIC we don’t have division or state nomination systems for candidates vying for any post. It is the delegates who nominate and vote. To avoid splitting divisions and states I hope state and division leaders do not endorse any candidates officially. There will be a lot of candidates contesting and all will ask your support. That will put you all in a fix. After nominations, candidates are free to go around and meet delegates. They can talk to them. At the end of the day the delegates will make the decision. So my advice to state and division leaders just remain quiet, let the delegates decide” Subra said in a press statement recently.
MIC sources said, Saravanan has already started his campaign rounds and has been visiting divisional leaders and delegates seeking their support.
Intense race for Vice-Presidents
Another center of focus on MIC elections would be the race for Vice-presidents. Not less than 10 candidates are said to be vying for the 3 vice-presidential positions up for grabs.
What is interesting this time about the vice-presidential race is that it has become an open field for anyone to try as there is no one defending the post as incumbents. Currently the two incumbent Vice-presidents are Saravanan and Devamany and Saravanan has already announced his intention of going for Deputy Presidency.
If Devamany also goes for Deputy Presidency then there will not be any incumbent Vice-Presidents defending their positions.
The race for 23 CWC positions are also expected to be a crowded one as about 50 candidates are expected to contest.
