BUTTERWORTH, March 18 – Several vessels have begun entering the Felda jetty in Lahad Datu, Sabah since last week to transport palm oil out from the factory in Felda Sahabat.  Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad(Pic) said all the vessels involved in transporting palm oil from Felda Sahabat were accompanied by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) vessels.

“I was made to understand that the situation in Felda Sahabat is getting better, our vessels have entered the area and leave with palm oil with not much problems because we have good cooperation with the RMN to accompany and monitor the movement of our vessels in the area.”

Mohd Isa said Felda Sahabat comprised 101,929.86 hectares of oil palm plantation and the losses incurred by FGV due to the intrusion had yet to be ascertained.

“We have to wait for the security forces to flush out the terrorists through the Ops Daulat and if the situation was safe, we will evaluate the damage and assess the losses incurred by FGV during the intrusion.

“We will also help the settlers whose houses were damaged in the incident and other areas which we can offer our assistance,” he said.  He said Felda would also maintain cooperation with the police and military forces to ensure the safety of settlers in the area.

“I’m sure the police and military forces have their plans to ensure security in the area, we will definitely work closely with them as they know the situation better,” he added.
