“Paralympic athletes sends rays of hope and confidence to Malaysian Society” – Dr Subra

Kuala Lumpur – “Bagging three golds as of to-date, at the Paralympics in Rio Di Janeiro, the Malaysian athletes have not only brought pride and fame to our country but have also brought hope and confidence to our Malaysian society”, MIC President and Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam said in a press statement released today.

Dr Subramaniam also conveyed his heartiest congratulations to the three gold medalists namely Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and Abdul Latif Romly  and other medal winners at the Paralympics.

“Their victory also displays our Malaysian government’s concern and constant efforts in providing the necessary skills, support and other forms of encouragement to the members  physical disabilities in  our society. Our Malaysian Paralympics athletes, despite their challenges and limitations,they have gone through great pains and sufferings to enshrine our country’s image at the world forum and have made all Malaysians proud by staging our national anthem on three occasions. Through their untiring efforts and deeds, they have also conveyed one important message to all of us in Malaysia which is very relevant at this hour, that “Instead of complaining of what we don’t have or what may be their limitations , the opportunities are in  abundance. Disabilities are not an hindrance. Hence,  let us go out and prove our worth and contribute to the nation building”. I urge our youth to take their achievements as an  example in reaching to a  greater heights in their pursuits in life as the physical disability is not an hindrance but rather a state of mind as proven by our Paralympics heroes” Dr Subra further said in his statement.

Subra also noted that the recent Olympics and the current Paralympics have also “taught us another important lesson, that Sports is one factor which unites all of us as Malaysians, irrespective  of our racial or religious backgrounds.
