SHAH ALAM, March 19 – The Earth Hour campaign to be held on March 23, has attracted 1,300 participants who will cycle 10km from Dataran Shah Alam, as a symbolic gesture to mark the celebrations said Shah Alam Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan(pic).
He said all participants will cycle around Shah Alam during the ‘Earth Hour night ride’ to showcase their love for nature, environment, healthy lifestyle and save electricity.
“The programme which is organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) with assistance from other related agencies, is to create awareness about the environment,” he told reporters, here, today.
Mohd Jaafar said all residents in Shah Alam have been urged to switch off lights at their respective homes from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on the said day. He said the main buildings in Section 9, Section 13 and Section 14, had agreed to switch off the lights at their premises as a mark of support for the campaign.
Mohd Jaafar earlier received a cheque for RM40,000 from Worldwide Holding Bhd to assist the campaign. The Earth Hour campaign is an international annual event organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to combat global warming.
