MELAKA, March 23 — MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen today declined to confirm or deny speculation that she would not contest in the 13th general election, due anytime now.
The tourism minister said only time would tell that. “Right now, it’s time for speculation and rumours. We have to wait for the appropriate time to know,” she told reporters after opening the Melaka Bird Park at the Melaka Botanical Garden, here.
Ng was asked to comment on a Chinese language newspaper report that she might be dropped as a candidate in the 13th general election.
The minister said her political struggle was not to go after positions but to strive to bring progress and prosperity to the country.
Asked whether she preferred to contest the Raub parliamentary seat, Ng said: “I do not have any desire in politics. My only desire is for the Barisan Nasional to win big.”
