NEW DELHI, March 25 – Malaysian batik and cuisine have gone Bollywood! Showcased in Mumbai to further promote the country’s heritage, the one-day event was organised by the Ladies Association of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.
“It is my fervent hope that this gathering will enable our international friends to know more about Malaysia, especially its rich cultural heritage, being a multi-racial and multi-ethnic country,” association chairman Siti Hazura Mohd Ghaus told Bernama today.
During the event, she said participants had the opportunity to see ketupat weaving and roti jala demonstrations by association members. Malaysian cuisines, such as Nasi Himpit, was also served, she added.
“Various types of batik were also exhibited, namely batik sarong, hand-drawn batik baju kurung Pahang and hand-drawn batik shirt and scarf,” said Siti Hazura.
She said, among the participants were the spouses of consuls-general from China, Argentina, Russia, as well as friends from India, Sri Lanka, Korea, France and Indonesia. The Russian consul-general’s wife, Alina Novikova, was all praise for the
event.
“The event was very well-organised and interesting, especially the ketupat weaving and roti jala demonstrations,” she noted.
