GEORGE TOWN, March 25 – Penang MIC Youth today claimed that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng(Pic) had not taken legal action against a Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) member who had allegedly taken a bribe three months ago. Its head, J. Dhinagaran, claimed that the incident took place in February last year and he had exposed the matter last January after securing the evidence.
“I have proof in the form of an audio recording and a VCD of a councillor accepting a bribe from a businesswoman.
“I am disappointed that the chief minister has not taken any action and does not seem to have knowledge of the matter when everyone else does,” he told a news conference here.
Dhinagaran said that as a chief minister who held to the ‘Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT)’ principle, Lim should have initiated a probe after getting information on corruption in the state under his administration.
“So far, no report has been made to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), but I may lodge a report with the MACC on the matter,” he said.
Dhinagaran claimed that in February last year a single mother informed him that she had to pay RM25,000 to an MPPP councillor to resolve a problem associated with a business licence. She claimed that she had handed over the money in three portions – RM10,000, RM5,000 and RM10,000 — to the councillor to resolve the problem and carry on her business, he said
