KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak conveyed his condolences to the family of the Consultant Editor of the English daily, The Sun, Zainon Ahmad, who died of liver cancer yesterday.
“My condolences to the family of Zainon Ahmad on his passing, Al-Fatihah. May Allah bless his soul, Amin,” he said in his Twitter website late last night. Zainon breathed his last at 2.25pm yesterday at the Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Baharu after being admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Tuesday due to liver cancer.
He is survived by his wife Hasnah Abdullah, 65, four children and 14 grandchildren. Zainon, who had served as a teacher for three years before becoming a journalist 35 years ago, was formerly Group Associate Editor of The New Straits Times. He later became Editor-in-Chief of the English daily, The Sun in 2002.
