SHAH ALAM — Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd (CSR), one of the biggest local sugar manufacturers, has launched its four latest variations of brown sugar to meet the needs of heath-conscious consumers.
Its chief executive officer, Hishammudin Hasan said the new products were expected to be in the market from this Aug 1.
“The variations of brown sugar are introduced to meet the needs of consumers who are conscious about their health as these have their own special sweetness, besides being a source of energy for the body.
“These variations have been categorised for making cakes, kuih, and drinks like tea and coffee, besides giving a distinctive aroma to the food and drinks prepared,’ he told reporters at the launch, here, today.
The four variations of brown sugar are the golden brown sugar (for drinks, cakes and cookies), soft brown sugar (for cakes, pastries and puddings), aromatic brown sugar (for baked goodies, desserts, marinades and to enhance taste of coffee) and traditional brown sugar (for kuih).
Hishammudin said the golden brown sugar, soft brown sugar and aromatic brown sugar would be sold at RM4.25 for a 450gm pack and the traditional brown sugar at RM4.25 for a 425gm pack.
“We have carried out research and development (R&D) to come up with a product from a mixture of white sugar and stevia for consumers who wish to reduce their calorie intake from their food and drinks. This product will be sold at RM6 for a 450gm pack.
Besides introducing its new products, CSR also today launched the new packaging for its coarse granulated sugar, also available from Aug 1. The retail price remains at RM2.95 for a one-kilogramme and it is RM3.05 for a one-kg pack of fine sugar.
However, the price of natural brown sugar at RM4.85 per kg in the old packaging is reduced to RM3.50 for the same weight in its new packaging.
“These measures are taken to encourage consumers to choose brown sugar as the main sweetener in their food and drinks, which is in line with our slogan this year, ‘Brown is Better’,” said Hishammudin.
