SHAH ALAM — UMNO is confident PAS voters in the Sungai Kandis by-election will reject Pakatan Harapan (PH) on polling day this Saturday.
UMNO president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this followed the high commitment witnessed by Barisan asional (BN) machinery and friends from the Islamic party during the campaign.
According to him, the conclusion is further strengthened by the statement of PAS secretary Datuk Takiyudin Hasan today which sent a signal that the party maintained its stand to oppose PH for allegedly marginalising Islam and the Malay community.
“The agreement was achieved not only with the PAS Spiritual Leader (Hashim Jasin) but also at Kota Raja level and at all Sungai Kandis voting districts. We hope it would translated into votes for our candidate (Datuk Lokman Noor Adam),” he told reporters after visiting the district polling centre (PDM) at Jalan Kebun here tonight.
Asked on the reaction of voters towards Lokman Noor, Ahmad Zahid said support was positive following their disappointments and dissatisfaction with the PH administration which entered its 70th day.
He said such responses were received at BN machinery and Lokman Noor meetings with voters in Sungai Kandis at several campaign locations. Earlier, Takiyudin told PAS voters in Sungai Kandis to choose based proper consideration in the interest of Islam, the Malay community and the country’s future.
In the Sungai Kandis by-election, Lokman Noor is facing Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate, K. Murthy.
The by-election was held following the death of its incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafie of lymphoma cancer on July 2.
