Shahrir SamadJOHOR BAHARU, March 30 – Johor Baharu MP Tan Sri Shahrir Samad(pic) today advised PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub to equip himself with sufficient knowledge on any issue before talking and embarrassing himself.

He said it was not necessary for Salahuddin, who is being bandied about as the candidate for menteri besar should Pakatan Rakyat capture Johor in the next general election, to become a hero and raise the issue of land in Kampung Melayu Majidee.

“In fact, Salahuddin is an outsider and does not know the actual situation (in Kampung Melayu Majidee) and has been talking as though he can be the saviour.

“The land in Kampung Melayu Majidee belongs to individuals and some of the land owners have sold land to eligible buyers. It (Kampung Melayu Majidee) does not sit on government land, the land belongs to individuals,” he told Bernama recently.  Shahrir said there was no restriction on land owners in Kampung Melayu Majidee who wanted to sell their land to eligible buyers.

He was commenting on a statement made by Salahuddin in his talk in Kampung Melayu Majidee recently along with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.  The Kubang Kerian MP had claimed that Umno leaders proposed to sell the land in Kampung Melayu Majidee to garner a lucrative commission from the sale. Shahrir said the PAS leader should be more sensitive to the alleged widespread sale of land in Kelantan to people from outside the state.

“It is not necessary for him (Salahuddin) to come here and try to portray himself as a saviour. All this while, the people of Kampung Melayu (Majidee) have been safe and sound, everything’s OK,” he said.  Kampung Melayu Majidee, which is located in the heart of Johor Baharu, is the largest Malay settlement in the city and is a stronghold of Umno and the
Barisan Nasional (BN).

Salahuddin, who intends to contest in Johor in the next general election, is expected to stand in the Pulai parliamentary constituency and the Nusajaya state constituency although there has been no confirmation from him on that.
