PUTRAJAYA — Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today hosted an official luncheon in honour of visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at Seri Perdana here.
Imran Khan, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday, was greeted by Dr Mahathir upon arrival at the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Dr Mahathir’s wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali; Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah; Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo; Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar also attended the luncheon.
Imran Khan is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Dr Mahathir. It is his maiden visit since assuming office in August. Imran Khan is a retired cricketer, indisputably the greatest cricketer to emerge from Pakistan.
Malaysia and Pakistan enjoy substantive and longstanding bilateral relations in the fields of education, tourism, defence cooperation and technical assistance.
In 2017, total bilateral trade was recorded at RM5.76 billion, an increase of 3.5 per cent compared to 2016.
Pakistan is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner among the South Asian countries.
