KUALA LUMPUR, April 1- The Peoples’ Progressive Party (PPP) has managed to draw about 300,000 new voters from among the youth nationwide in its efforts to ensure a win for Barisan Nasional (BN) at the upcoming 13th General Election. Party president Datuk Seri M Kayveas(pic) said the new voters have registered as PPP members and pledged to vote for BN.
“This is among PPP’s strategies for the past four years to ensure BN’s win at the 13th General Election,” he told reporters after opening the party’s Operations Room and launching its Wangsa Maju division Welfare Fund, also attended by the division chief Richard Lee, here today.
“We named it the ‘510 Mission’, whereby we ensure at least 510 votes in each PPP branch nationwide. For example, we have 10 branches in Wangsa Maju, which means BN is assured of 5,100 votes there,” he said.
Kayveas further expressed hope that PPP would be given a seat in the Federal Territory as there was strong support from its members there, which included about 106,000 of the 300,000 new members.
“We just hope to be given a chance after all our efforts so far,” he said. He added however that as a component party, their approximately 600,000 members will support any candidate selected by BN. Meanwhile, Richard said Wangsa Maju was the first division to set up a welfare fund for the well-being of its members.
“So far various parties have contributed RM15,000 to the fund and we hope other divisions would follow suit and set up their funds too,” he said.
