Ahmad SaidKUALA TERENGGANU, April 2 – Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today stressed that political talk on him not contesting in the upcoming general election was mere speculation or rumour. Ahmad, who is also state BN chairman, said it would be illogical for him not to put his name in the list of candidates submitted for the elections when he met with Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.

He was asked to comment on the rampant disseminaton of SMS texts on the possible state BN candidates for the elections, while some state top leaders were claimed to be not contesting or would be standing in another constituency.

Ahmad said the speculations could be made by opposition supporters but if they were made by BN members or supporters, it could cause friction among them and this might weaken the party. He said the question of candidates for Terengganu BN was resolved during his meeting with the prime minister.

“The list of candidates has been finalised but it cannot be divulged yet in case there is a last-minute change. In politics, anything can happen,” he said. He urged the public not to listen to rumours on the selection of candidates as it could create a climate of uneasiness.

Earlier, Ahmad attended an appreciation ceremony and reception to mark  Terengganu’s educational excellence which was attended by more than 1,000 educators from throughout the state.
