KANGAR, April 3 – The Perlis Legislative Assembly was dissolved today to pave the way for the state elections to be held simultaneously with the 13th federal polls. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu(pic) made the announcement at 1 pm after chairing the weekly meeting of the state executive council at the Perlis State Assembly Complex, here.
He said he received the consent to dissolve the state assembly over the telephone from the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, who was out of the state. Md Isa said he would seek an audience with Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin tonight or tomorrow on the matter.
Perlis has three parliamentary seats – Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau – and 15 state seats, 13 of which were held by the BN and two by PAS in the last assembly. The Election Commission (EC) has 137,349 voters on its rolls for Perlis.
