PUTRAJAYA, April 4 – Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal(pic) is confident that the people will choose Barisan Nasional to continue ruling the country after seeing the earnest efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak since helming the government four years ago.
He said the Umno president had made careful considerations and received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve the Dewan Rakyat to enable the people to once again choose a government for the nation.
“I believe the grassroots are able to judge Datuk Seri Najib’s administration, (including) the many initiatives he has undertaken to develop this nation.
“He has not only placed the country’s economy on a strong foundation but has also raised the confidence of the internaitonal committee in Malaysia’s capability.”
Shafie said this at a press conference after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Risda and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Rural and Land Regional Development Ministry, here, today. On developments in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Shafie who was also Semporna MP before the dissolution of Parliament today, said be believed the situation in the affected areas were conducive for the voters to come out to vote, due to the presence of the security forces.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Sutinah Sutan said the commission provided integrity vetting to enable the contesting political parties to send the names of the prospective candidates for confirmation whether any of the names was under investigation by MACC.
“We would inform the parties concerned whether a candidate has a case or not. But the ultimate decision (on the person’s candidacy) is with the party, not MACC,” she said.
