KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 – Eleven senior police officers, among them Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar(pic), have been appointed to monitor and provide advice on security and public order to the 14 state police contingents throughout the upcoming 13th General Election.
“The officers will not be stationed at the states but only monitor the situation from afar and communicate through SMS and so on,” Inspector-General of Police Secretariat assistant head (Public Relations) ACP Ramli Mohamed Yusof said at a media briefing on the general election in Bukit Aman, here today.
Khalid has been appointed to advise the Negeri Sembilan contingent; CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin (Sabah); Commercial CID director Datuk Wira Syed Ismail Syed Azizan (Kedah and Perlis); Special Taskforce director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (Perak); Management director Datuk Mortadza Nazarene (Sarawak).
Narcotics CID director Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim is in charge of Kelantan and Terengganu; Logistics Department director Datuk Pahlawan Zulkifli Abdullah (Johor and Melaka); police National Key Results Area secretariat chairman Datuk Wira Ayub Yaacob (Pahang); Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid (Kuala Lumpur); Special Branch deputy director II Datuk Eo Chong Cheong (Penang); Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director I Datuk Abd Rahman Hussin (Selangor).
Ramli said Bukit Aman police will provide daily briefings on security to the media at 10 am, which started today.
“Ideally we planned to provide two briefings, at 10 am and 4 pm, but for now (after Parliament’s dissolution) we will have only one at 10 am,” he said. Reiterating Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar’s advice last Thursday, Ramli reminded the public not to mar the upcoming election with any incidents which could jeopardise the safety of people and property.
“We appeal to everyone to refrain from committing any offences, including all political parties involved, such as corruption etc contained in the Election Offences Act 1954,” said Ramli. He added that updates may be obtained from the Royal Malaysian Police Facebook page.
“Speaking of Facebook, police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission will be monitoring the ‘cyber war’ phenomenon related to comments and views on the general election, to prevent incitement and other problems,” he said.
