GOPENG: MCA has given way to MIC to contest the Tronoh state seat this general election, announced MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek(Pic).
This, he said, was done in the spirit of power sharing among Barisan Nasional component parties, and there was no condition attached.
Dr Chua said he hoped the Indian community would appreciate MCA’s spirit, and in turn gave their full support to the party and Barisan in all other seats.
About 13% of voters in Perak are Indians.
The MCA president also confirmed that MCA would swap the Buntong state seat with MIC’s Sungkai state seat this elections.
The number of Chinese voters in Sungkai is about 55%, while Indian voters make up about 45% of voters in Buntong.
Dr Chua said he had indepth discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the changes.
“Barisan component parties must work together to win in the general election and not how many seats contested by its component parties,” he stressed.
Dr Chua, who is also Perak MCA chairman, urged the party members to not to be emotional over the decision.
On Saturday, Batu Gajah MCA protested after a report quoting Perak MIC deputy chairman Datuk R. Ganesan saying his party would contest in Tronoh.
