JAKARTA, April 9- US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) leader William D Magwood is on a working visit to meet with related officials in Indonesia, Inodnesia’s ANTARA reported.
“During my visit, I will meet with the research and technology minister, the chief of National Atomic Energy Agency (Batan), and the chief of Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency of Indonesia (Bapeten),” Magwood said at Bapeten office here on Monday.
He explained that his meeting with Bapeten chief was in the framework of increasing cooperation between the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency of Indonesia and US NRC.
“The cooperation between Bapeten and US NRC has been initiated since 2002 and that we would like to continue to increase it,” Magwood said. Further, Magwood added that he would also speak in a seminar on “Nuclear Energy Safety and Surveillance” and to make a working visit to several nuclear installations and facilities.
He expressed hope that his working visit could have a positive impact on the respective countries in the nuclear energy surveillance. Meanwhile, Bapeten Chief As Natio Lasman said the visit by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission leader was expected to give a clear picture to Indonesian community about nuclear policy in the country.
“The visit is expected to give a clear picture on how the US NRC makes a surveillance against the operation of nuclear power plant and safety radioactive waste management in Indonesia,” he said.
