Raja Nong ChikKUALA LUMPUR, April 10 – Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin(pic) today slammed news portal Malaysiakini for allegedly twisting facts about his involvement in an offshore company, RZA International Corporation.  The Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister in a media statement said although the correct information had been provided to the portal, it had still twisted the facts to the point of tarnishing his name and family.

“Malaysiakini has tarnished the good name of my father by portraying him as a money launderer, tax evader and engaging in unwlaful financial transactions just to give an advantage to their candidate in the coming general election.

“This clearly shows the unethical attitude and malicious intent of Malaysiakini,” he said in the statement.  Malaysiakini in its report titled “Politicians among 1,500 who own offshore companies”, among others is alleged to have reported that Raja Nong Chik had set up RZA International Corporation with his father, Raja Zainal Abidin Raja Haji Tachik, a number of his sisters and brothers as well as other family members.

Raja Nong Chik said in April 2, he had explained to Malaysiakini that RZA International Corporation was set up by his father on Aug 21 2007, before he became a Cabinet minister.

“In August 2007, before I became the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister, my father had made a decsion to distribute shares in RZA International Corporation to my mother, my siblings, children of my late brother and also to
me,” he said.

The company which was supposed to make offshore investments was however closed in December 2008 after it did not make any such investments, he said, adding that he had never held a director’s post or shares in any other offshore companies.
