GEORGE TOWN –  Dine-in at all eateries will be allowed in Penang, beginning Monday, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow, in a press conference streamed live via Facebook today, said this was decided at the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting on Wednesday.

“Today the first phase of dining-in at eateries, involving hotels, supermarkets, and fast-food franchises kicked in.

“Beginning Monday, the state government will fully implement the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) for all sectors allowed by the National Security Council (MKN) in the state.

“Local authorities along with the state Local Government exco, and the Penang Health Department will standardise the guidelines for compliance with phase two of dining-in,” he said.

To facilitate compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by the business premises, Chow said the state government will introduce a registration system for contact tracing through the Penang Contact Tracer application (PGCare).

He added the PGCare application would be able to replace the SOP requirement to manually register the names of every visitor entering business premises as required by the MKN through three steps – scan the QR code, fill in the details and declare the premises after checks-in.

“This system not only saves time but also avoids any form of human touch. It also ensure personal details are safe and will not be misused,” he said.

Chow urged all the people to comply with the SOP and the public health measures even though Penang has allowed all sectors to operate fully under CMCO.

“We must always aware and careful that the COVID-19 outbreak is still around us and the vaccine is not found yet.

“Although the period to curb the deadly outbreak is most challenging, the sacrifices would be meaningful when Penang is now declared a green zone state,” he said.
