KUALA TERENGGANU, April 12 – The Chinese community has been urged to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Bandar, the only seat held by the MCA, so that they will continue to have a representative. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said(Pic) said the support was to ensure that BN wins 13th general election to enable the government to implement programmes for the community.
“I expect the Chinese community to give full support to BN and the MCA candidate constesting the seat. If the party loses, then the Chinese will not have a representative,” he told reporters before chairing the Terengganu Umno Liaison Body meeting here last night.
Ahmad said the BN government never neglected the welfare of the Chinese community by channelling aid during Chinese New Year and for several programmes. This was proven by the appointment of Bandar state assemblyman Datuk Toh Chin Yaw as member of the State Executive Council (Industry, Trade and Environment).
Toh who will again contest Bandar state seat will likely face Azan Ismail from PKR (MP for Indera Mahkota, Pahang) in a straight fight. In the 2008 general election, Toh beat Dr Abdul Manaf Che Mat from PKR with a majority of 1,142 votes.
