KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 – Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim(Pic) will be contesting the Port Klang state seat in the 13th general election on May 5, leaving the Ijok seat which he won in 2008.
This was confirmed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at an opposition forum held at the AU2 football field in Taman Keramat, here, tonight. The PKR candidate for Ijok will be its Federal Territory chairman, Dr Idris Ahmad.
“All the seats in Selangor have been finalised except for the Kota Damansara state seat held by the Socialist Party of Malaysia, which will be announced tomorrow,” said Anwar.
Last Friday, Abdul Khalid introduced Dr Idris to the people during an opposition forum in Taman Ubudiah, Ijok. On April 9, PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail admitted that Abdul Khalid might not be chosen to be menteri besar if Pakatan Rakyat retains Selangor in the 13th general election.
There has been speculation that PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali might be replacing Abdul Khalid as menteri besar. Anwar also confirmed that Mohamed Azmin would be defending his Bukit Antarabangsa state seat and Gombak parliamentary seat.
As for other parliamentary seats, PKR’s strategy director Rafizi Ramli will stand in Pandan, its Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin will defend her Ampang seat and vice-president R.Sivarasa his Subang seat, while a new candidate, former International Islamic University lecturer Dr Abdul Aziz will contest in Sabak Bernam.
