pasPASIR PUTEH, April 15- Danan Timur PAS division secretary Ibrahim Ismail, 63, has declared that he will contest as an independent candidate for the Selising state assembly seat at the 13th General Election on May 5.

Saying that the decision was in protest against PAS for fielding incumbent Saiful Baharin Mohamad for the seat, he claimed it would be difficult for the party to win if Saiful contested there again.

“I represent the PAS members who are unhappy with this selection. A few days ago we sent a protest letter to Nik Abdul Aziz (Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat) asking him to reconsider the matter but it was ignored,” he told reporters at his house after announcing his decision before about 50 supporters.

At the end of last month, Nik Abdul Aziz announced that Saiful would be retained to defend the Selising state assembly seat at the general election, as a lesson to those who spread lies about the candidate.  Ibrahim, who is Pasir Puteh PAS Information Committee member, added that he took his stance after being urged by more than 1,500 party members.

He further remarked that he had protested Saiful’s nomination for the seat at the previous general election but had conceded in the hope that it would be different next time around.
