Apr 19, 2013-PAS’ Tanjung Batu candidate Fatmawaty Mohd Yusof received a rude shock on Thursday morning when her home was splashed with red paint and a rock was thrown into her window.

NONEAccording to Fatmawaty, the rock, which smashed the ground floor window, was wrapped with a piece of paper which read: “Tarik diri atau!!!”  (Pull out or else!!!)

“I was sleeping upstairs but my sister who was sleeping downstairs woke me up to say she heard something outside.

“When we went out we found the paint. It was still wet. We didn’t see anyone around,” she said when contacted.

She said that a friend, who was staying with the family, had then called the police and a patrol car arrived soon after.

“We noticed that the window was broken and there was this ‘lump’ of something. We unwrapped it when the police arrived and found the note,” she said.

The first-time candidate said that the red paint hit the front porch, where two cars were parked.

“It hit the back of the cars and the driver’s side,” she said.

NONEA police report was lodged at the Tawau district police headquarters at about 9am that day.

She said that police informed her that this is the first incident of political violence reported in Tawau in recent time.

“I know these things happen in the peninsular but it seems that such political violence has also crept into Sabah.

“I never expected this to happen, but it will not deter me from contesting,” she said.

Fatmawaty, 30, is contesting the majority-Muslim seat against incumbent BN candidate Hamisa Samad.

In 2008, Hamisa won Tanjong Batu, located within the parliamentary constituency of Kalabakan, with a majority of  4,422 against a PKR and Independent candidate.
