Apr 19, 2013-A businessman has vowed to expose “the truth” behind the RM250 million National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal and the alleged involvement of former minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, during his campaign as an Independent candidate for the Bukit Bintangparliamentary seat.
Shamsubahrin Ismail, who was charged for crimes related to the NFC episode, also expressed his disappointed with Umno leaders for protecting the guilty party at the expense of the rakyat.
“I want the public to know about (the truth) of the NFC affair… I grew up with Umno, but the party screwed me over. Umno protected somebody who is corrupt.
“(A minister’s) family has been given RM250 million but they misused it and accused me of misrepresenting them,” claimed a somewhat emotional Shamsubahrin at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Shamsubahrin had called for the press conference to announce his candidacy for the Bukit Bintang seat as an Independent. He will be facing candidates from DAP and MCA.
He said he had initially wanted to contest wherever Shahrizat was contesting, but since she was not being fielded by BN, he chose Bukit Bintang because he was familiar with the people, after doing business there for the past 15 years.
‘DAP has failed’
He also believed that the incumbent MP Fong Kui Lun from DAP has failed to develop the constituency or help its residents, and thus should be given the boot.
“It is time that the DAP is driven out of Bukit Bintang.”
While he admits that the greater roadblock to Bukit Bintang development and better facilities often rests with the nature of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), he believe that a true people’s representative would not have given up and would fight it out until the local government delivers.
