COMMENT BY YB PROF DR P.RAMASAMY,
DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER II, PENANG
Marriage of convenience to destabilise PM Anwar
The former twice prime minister Mahathir Mohammed seems to oscillate between political extremes. Having mooted the idea of Malay Proclamation, he went recently to talk about the DAP’s subversion of the Federal Constitution by promoting multi-racialism.
He criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for being the puppet of the DAP by virtue of the latter’s control of 40 seats in the Parliament. Hardly is the controversy over, he met PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to get the support to his Malay Proclamation.
Earlier he had met Azmin Ali, one of the key persons behind the Sheraton Move.
Following the Sheraton Move, Mahathir and Muhyiddin drifted apart. I suppose the impending state elections have brought them together. Both Mahathir and Muhyiddin are political desperados, they just cannot wait to topple Anwar from power.
You name it, Mahathir will go the extreme end to destabilise the unity government headed by Anwar. It might be the Malay Proclamation, multi-racialism as an affront to the Federal Constitution and about the evil designs of the DAP in subverting Malay hegemony and others.
Mahathir and Muhyiddin have their differences, however, the idea of bringing down the legitimate government is too enticing to be ignored.
I have said numerous times, the Malay Proclamation is all about delegitimising the elected government of Anwar. It has nothing to do with fighting for the Malays.
Mahathir was the prime minister first for 22 years and later 22 months, he should direct the question as to why the Malays are losing out to others, particularly, the non-Malays in the country.
During this period, the ordinary Malays might not have benefited, but his family members and cronies rode on the Malay wave to reap handsome economic and financial benefits.
Muhyiddin is not saint, his PN government, formed after the illegal Sheraton Move, did nothing to assist the Malays. He should be asking himself as what he did for the Malays when he was in power.
Presently, he is facing corruption and money laundering charges for allegations of diverting funds meant for the eradication of Covid-19 pandemic.
Mahathir, Muhyiddin and others are the hypocrites, who say one thing but do another. These individuals have case to answer as why they never lifted a finger to assist the poor and ordinary Malays when they had the power and means to do something meaningful for the Malays.
Mahathir’s extreme racism seems to be timed well for six state elections. Basically, he wants to bring down the government of Anwar. To do this, he is willingly to have pact with the PN leaders to bring down Anwar.
Their differences are put aside for the sole nefarious purpose of undermining and subverting the unity government headed by Anwar.
