HishammuddinKLUANG, April 25 – The Home Ministry today warned all political parties in the country not to indulge in terrorist politics to the extent of causing tension and tarnishing the democratic process and Malaysia’s good name.

The warning came from Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Tun Hussein when asked to comment on the Tuesday blast in Nibong Tebal, which he labelled as a serious act by irresponsible people trying to bring in the politics of terrorism.

“There are limits and boundaries to our politicking. There are limits and boundaries to pointing fingers at others. There are limits and boundaries to getting sympathy votes from the people,” he told reporters at a function with the villagers at Felda Kahang Timur here today.

Hishammuddin, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Sembrong parliamentary seat, viewed the incident as an attempt by certain people to tarnish politics in Malaysia, especially during the ongoing 13th general election (GE13).
Present was the NB candidate for the Kahang state seat, R Vidyanathan.

Hishammudin confirmed that police had detained three suspects so far in connection with the blast and were doing their best to investigate the case. Asked if there were those in the opposition who regarded the incident as a drama orchestrated by Umno and the BN, he said he would not be if surprised there were because they had also regarded the intrusion in Lahad Datu by armed terrorists, which claimed the lives of 10 security force personnel, as a drama.

“This is the opposition’s tactic. They will link anything that happens to Umno,” he said.

He also said that it was impossible for the police to quard all the district polling centres, so the public could help by being the eyes and ears of the police besides assisting the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela). A BN worker in his 30s was injured in the leg after an explosive device went off in a rubbish dump behind the BN election operations room in Jawi, Nibong Tebal, at about 10.15pm on Tuesday during a ceramah by Penang Gerakan chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan which was attended by about 3,000 people.
