GEORGE TOWN: Police here arrested three suspects in relation to the blast at a Barisan Nasional ceramah in Nibong Tebal on Tuesday.
The three men, aged 25 to 41, were picked up in George Town, Bukit Mertajam and South Seberang Perai. “We are tracking down a few more, believed to be from the same group,” said Penang police spokesman Asst Comm Roslee Chik.
He said one of the suspects has a previous record for possession of explosives.
In Kluang, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said he has instructed the police and Rela to increase their presence at ceramah to deter future incidents.
“We do not condone such violent and extremist act by certain quarters who want to create instability, especially during the election,” he said.
