mba-jobs_0LABUAN, April 27  – A total of 5,000 job opportunities are expected to be created in Labuan, especially in the oil and gas sector, if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the Labuan parliamentary seat in the May 5 polls.

BN candidate for the seat, Rozman Isli, said should he be elected, he would set up a research team to conduct a survey to generate the creation of more job opportunities in the oil and gas sector, especially for the youths in Labuan.

“This is among my vision and mission for Labuan. We want to create more jobs for our youths,” he said at a ‘Ramah Mesra’ programme here yesterday.

Rozman said the setting up of the research team was aimed at ensuring that Labuan-born workers would make up at least 50 per cent of the workers in the oil and gas sector.

He said the federal government was also committed to develop the oil and gas sector in Labuan that would definitely benefit the people in the duty-free island.  In this context, Rozman said the federal government had allocated RM165 million to turn Labuan into a world-renowned oil and gas hub.

“The allocation will help open more rooms for cooperation between local and foreign companies. In fact, I’m confident that Labuan will be the first territory to achieve the national transformation agenda,” he said.

Rozman also gave assurance that educational development would also be given priority in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s aspiration of ‘People First, Performance Now’.
