JOHOR BAHARU, April 27 – Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman is confident that the younger generation in the state will stick with the Barisan Nasional in the 13th General Election (GE13) on May 5.
Abdul Ghani said government initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak concerning their welfare besides various programmes targetted at youths had attracted them to continue to be behind the BN.
“There are some who say that the young are anti-BN, it is not the case,” he told reporters after campaigning at a shopping mall in Skudai here today.
Abdul Ghani, who was menteri besar of Johor for four terms, is in what is described as the “mother of all battles” in GE13. He is facing DAP’s supremo Lim Kit Siang in the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat.
Kit Siang, the incumbent for the Ipoh Timor parliamentary seat in Perak, decided to take the fight to Johor in an attempt to penetrate the BN “fortress”.
To up the ante, Abdul Ghani has also launched a Facebook site in Mandarin which carries the slogan “I’m Your Old Friend’ to attract Chinese voters. It can be accessed at abdulghaniothmanGP.
