NajibALOR SETAR, April 30- The opposition cannot be proud of their efforts to champion the people’s lot because in the past five years the “pact” had only implemented 15 per cent of the promises made in its manifesto for the 2008 general election, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.

The prime minister said that the opposition comprising PAS, DAP and PKR was only good at making promises but had failed to fulfil them, including in states under its control, like Kedah. As such, he said, it was time for the people nationwide to reject the opposition in the polls on Sunday.

“In 2008, we (the people) were taken in by the (opposition’s) promises, surely we are not going to be fooled again (this time). Surely we are not giving them a second chance or space,” he said when opening Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Awana in Pokok Sena near here.

Present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Kedah Umno liaison chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and the Barisan Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat, Datuk Shahlan Ismail.

Najib said that unlike the opposition, the BN was capable of fufilling its promises and would continue to do if given the mandate to govern at the national and state levels. That was why the BN used the term “aku janji” (pledge) because it would fulfil whatever was promised to the people, he said.

“The opposition said that a manifesto is not a promise…if it’s not, why table a manifesto? It’s a waste of time. That’s why we (BN) do not use a manifesto because the opposition has tarnished (the word) manifesto.

“We use pledge…promise to the people and even higher, our promise is judged by God. That’s why I say that today is better than yesterday, tomorrow will be filled with hope and light,” he said.

Najib gave a commitment that the BN government would continue to bring Malaysians to a better future if they continued to give it their mandate to lead the country.

Najib said that the various initiatives introduced by the BN government, like the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BRIM), were proof of the party’s achievement in keeping its promises and bringing development to the people. The initiatives had shown that the national transformation programme introduced by the BN government was better than the opposition’s call for reformation.

The people already realised that “reformation” was only connected to, among others, meaningless street demonstrations, resulting in the “call” not geting response now, he said.

Najib said that prior to this, the BN government had made a mistake but it had learnt from it and would not repeat it in championing the people’s lot and bringing change to the country. To ensure that Malaysia continued to progress and succeed, the people must choose individuals with vision for the country, unlike the opposition which was only good at making promises, he added.

“Not just vision, careful and systemic planning (are needed) too. Choose people capable of implementing change, not people who make empty promises,” he said.

Najib also that the government built schools and prepared the syllabus to educate children to be useful beings.

“We build schools so that our children have high morals, obey the law and respect the aged and people of the same faith as well as non-Muslims, not to revile, which could destroy the society’s values.

“A nation is developed not because of its buildings but because (its citizens) have high morals. That’s why we want to carry out transformation.”

The construction of “beautiful” schools was proof that the BN government had carried out transformation, Najib said, noting that many developing countries regarded schools in Malaysia as universities. SK Taman Awana, built under the 10th Malaysia Plan in 2009 at a cost of RM13.2 million, comprises four blocks on a 4.32ha site in Mukim Hutan Kampung.
