Hamidah OsmanIPOH, May 1- A Wanita Umno survey of voter sentiment shows that the Barisan Nasional (BN) is ahead of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the 13th General Election and can secure a two-third majority victory on Sunday.

Wanita Umno Information chief Datuk Hamidah Osman said the survey was conducted by 250,000 members of the wing’s “Jalinan Rakyat” (People’s Network) on 7.5 million voters throughout the country except Sarawak.

She said that according to the survey, the BN had up to today garnered the support of almost 60 per cent of the voters.

The People’s Network had conducted surveys of voter sentiment since the by-elections in Hulu Selangor, Galas and Tenang in 2010 and its results had been “very accurate” (about 95 per cent).

“The survey, conducted through the People’s Network Information System, goes by parliamentary constituency, polling district centres and location. The results are more realistic, justified and comprehensive.

“Based on the survey, conservatively, we are confident the BN can establish the government by winning two thirds of the parliamentary seats. We are confident the support for the BN will rise by polling day (on Sunday),” he told a news conference, here.

Hamidah, who last held the Sungai Rapat state seat, said that based on the same survey, the BN could retain Perak with a simple majority.

“Up to today, conservatively, 34 seats in Perak are regarded as white areas. There are several grey areas but the response from the constituents is positive. Additional seats are a bonus,” she said.

Hamidah said that after 12 days of campaigning, the support for Umno was growing and most encouraging.

“Many Malay voters in the state have swung to the BN. The collaboration among the parties of the Pakatan Rakyat – PAS, PKR and DAP – is not like in 2008. They are moving on their own and want to see who will arrive first,” she said.
