KUALA LUMPUR, May 3- Himpunan Hijau chairman Wong Tack must come clean and explain to the public the controversy surrounding cultivation practices adopted by his oil palm plantation in Sabah, said a MCA central committee member.
“I urge Wong Tack to clarify if his 404.ha oil palm plantation in Sabah adopts good environment practices,” said Datuk Hoh Khai Mun who is also MCA Bentong Division Chairman
“His company has yet to furnish details of the buffer zone or measurement of insecticide used, despite DAP sloganeering of transparency and accountability,” he said in a statement here, today.
Wong is standing under the DAP ticket against BN’s incumbent Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for the Bentong parliamentary seat.
Recently, Malaysia Nature Society president Prof Dr Maketab Mohamed hadasked Wong Tack to explain the best practices for oil palm cultivation in the latter’s plantation which included the creation of vital riparian zones to serve as a buffer zone between the plantation and the river.
The buffer zone among other functions will help to filter surface run-off from rainwater as well as produce food and shelter for small mammals.
