PEKAN: The results of the 13th general election will depend very much on the choice of young voters, especially those voting for the first time, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said this was evident by the number of first time voters in the Pekan constituency alone.

“Of some 80,000 voters in Pekan, about 24,000 are first time voters,” said Najib at a gathering with young voters here Saturday.

Najib said he was confident the majority of youths would side with and support a Barisan Nasional government.

“In other countries, youths are restless, angry, full of hatred and always demanding for the government to be changed. They behave that way because their leaders do not care about them.

“In Malaysia, we have governed the country well. We have provided hundreds of thousands of jobs and I have promised 3.3 million jobs by 2020,” he said.

Najib added that training schemes and an education system that provides opportunities as well as various attractive youth programmes had been prepared by the government.

Earlier at the launch of a new building at SJK(C) Pekan, Najib called on the constituents to give him the biggest support.

The incumbent Pekan MP said it was his first time contesting the seat as the Prime Minister and he needed the Pekan voters’ support so that his leadership would be better accepted and respected nationwide.

“Anything we want to do on the national level starts from the Pekan grassroots because I am contesting here,” he said.

Najib also announced a RM300,000 allocation for the construction of a pre-school block for the school.
